About Me

hellooooooo :)
Charlene Uban [& Other Mythical Beasts]

Romantic love makes me super incredibly uncomfortable, and I think that's why I spend so much time and energy making art that generally makes me feel uncomfortable sharing it with strangers, or even people who know me well. I really just want to understand it, more than I ever want to find out if it's real or not. I'd be okay with it not being real. Real or fake, it's all very beautiful anyway.

There's an anthropologist, Helen Fisher, who does a lot of research focused on attraction.  Her work is pretty neat.  I often wonder what it would be like to research it like she does.  I haven't done that much research for my artwork, but I try mainly to gather up source material from my own experiences, although not always.  I try to talk with anyone I can about it.  It's tricky, but I'm starting to get better at getting people to confide in me details about the first person they've ever kissed or the way they feel about their first love.

I am currently attending Tyler School of Art, Temple University for my B.F.A. in painting.  I probably like Google, Wikipedia, and TED.com way too much.  Though technology in general kinda freaks me out.  I tend to write things down on napkins or text message myself phrases that I have to look into later.  I suffer from tea addiction (it's getting pretty bad) and trying different food.  I can be a fast food queen or an Alton Brown type.  I like cooking and reading, when I have time to take the time.  I like taking long walks and night drives.  I'm happy dancing to this weird fusion of hiphop and techno-rave that seems to be the trend in pop music.  I like talking with people who are good talking.  I spend a lot of time in my own head, talking lets me into someone else's for once.  Laughing is probably my favorite thing in the world.  I've also been accused of being cynical, but I will fight that assumption until I die.

Some of these drawings are unfinished/works in progress/studies, but I'm all right with you having a look anyway.  Any time I refer to "Gimp," on here.  I'm referring to GIMP digital image editing freeware.
