I made this last semester for my 2D design class when I was in the Foundations program.  It was juried into the Foundations Show this spring.  I didn't know that the show happened, and I ended up not getting to see my work up.  Sad face.  My professor ran into me in the bathroom, and said the show was over and they might throw it out if I didn't pick it up soon.  This is the kind of thing that happens to me... bahahah.  At least it didn't get thrown out, right?!  This post Other People's Love Letters has a picture of what my floor looked like as I was making it.

Other People's Love Letters

The Borders is closing downtown in Center City.  R.I.P.  I went in there looking for "The Alchemist", but no bueno.  So instead, I ended up getting Other People's Love Letters: 150 Letters You Were Never Meant to See... and I got it 60% off too!  It's too cute... except for the sad ones.  Bahah... Those are not cute at all.

I'm going to post the finished book next.  I didn't notice this, but it's pretty cool since I have another painting in there, which actually is of the corner of the room.  See here.  I spy... a bologna sandwich!  Just kidding.

Tea Stained: WIP photos

I'm always interested in the way ideas come to be, and how many times an idea can be recycled...

These WIP pictures were taken while I was working on an assignment last semester.  I tea-stained photocopies of my journals, sketchbooks, illustrations, and other assignments.  Then I had to devise a method of drying them... which ended up being me running a few yards of satin ribbon across my open closet and using clothespins.

The final tea-stain of the first WIP image was used to create this pop-up book.  The same imagery was used for this under-painting.

This hasn't turned into anything else yet... But it started off as a poem that I had originally posted in my Myspace (ahahha!) blog at the time.

I posted schtuff from my high school days a couple of posts ago...  So tonight, just because I feel like it, you get to see another!  (Prawn going through a banana...)

"I do not take drugs.  I am drugs."  --Dali.  I begged my mother to take me to the PMA to see his retrospective in 2005 when I was in high school... that show influenced a lot of my high school paintings.  Turns out Dali is one helluva a drug.  Even my mother came out of that exhibition wanting to be a surrealist painter.

**EDIT**:  I uploaded a new version of the painting because the last one didn't do it justice.  I put an acrylic glaze on it, which I'm not used to, so I have to take a bunch of pictures until one of them looks like the painting.

16. Alexander McQueen

I've updated the  List of Favorite Mythical Beasts.

Spot #16 on the list goes to Alexander McQueen, the mythical beast himself!  Somewhere in heaven he is dressing up the angels very fancy.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is having an exhibition, Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty, which will be on view May 4 to July 31.  It should be a gorgeous show!
